Welp, that was depressing.

Only if you use the internet! (I advise against it)

This wanker. I first ran into him when he came to Eastwood Plaza(a local Chinese and Korean area) to protest China as if the fucking Tonyon Supermarket was run by the CCP. Let alone the fact that most of the diaspora in that area is from Hong Kong...

I... don't think this is a reasonable explanation of what Hanania is (and why more highbrow people buy into him when they wouldn't give the time of day to most other people).

And the Shakespeare claim is, of course, correct, because Shakespeare is not a good writer?

I don’t think Shakespeare is the best writer in history, nor would I even put him on my top ten or twenty or fifty favorite writers. I disagree with you that he wasn’t good at all, but that is of course completely subjective so I won’t argue it, but Hananaia’s claim (he has never published fiction in his life, so much as I’m aware) that he is a much better writer than Shakespeare just feels like something you would only say for attention.

And it worked. People were riffing on that tweet for weeks, he got a shit ton more followers, and he never presented his better-than-Shakespeare manuscript. Instead, he moved on to his next calculated project.

I guess "not good at all" is a bit harsh, but the point that Hanania was making is that we progress _a lot_ and for the same reason that a stupid physics undergrad makes better physics than Newton, he'd make better text than Shakespeare, because the field just progressed so much, "shoulders of giants" and all that. And, again, it just seems true to me.

Moving a bit away from the specific example, you make a category of people who claim to have whatever views will bring them audience. And I just don't think that fits. In part because who in their right (well, "right", they're obviously insane, but you know what I mean) mind would do that _and then document it in a "my political journey" post_, effectively _twice_?

With Brianna Wu, I would be a little more charitable- it wasn't a deliberate shitposting strategy, but more a 'fuck you too' pivot.
