All depends on how you define “masculinity.” I think most of those who will quickly define themselves as “alphas” can generally be defined as unoriginal brutes who, to whatever extent they are capable of persuasion, do so by aggression or the threat of aggressive action. They tend to be sad and lonely, finding more tangible symbols of power like large trucks, loud motorcycles, beards, Joe Rogan, and watching men pound on each other in a mostly asexual way within an octagon. And by so making the decision to like the exact same things they are totally strong self-made creatures. I don’t think this is masculinity. It’s simply immaturity, men who didn’t handle adolescence well and still find themselves within its grip. The pathetic thing is that their aggression comes up regularly against the reality that they, like all of us, have no real chance to reshape the world according to our own needs. Wealth, beautiful women, the respect of all: yeah, none of that is heading their way.

Meanwhile, those of us who passed through adolescence and found our way to adulthood are able to converse with women without trying to get her to bed, and can converse with men to get them to work together for some slight improvement to our community’s well being. This is what masculinity means to me. Being a fully grownup human who happens to possess a dick.

Brilliant piece, even though the images nearly made me lose lunch!

JFK's body count and they think he wasn't manly? Or do they only like presidents who survive getting shot?

More the performing arts aspect - I think the MAGAs actually quite like Kennedy. Anyway, I’m going to have to revise that paragraph because it seems, as I was publishing this, a judge just ruled that they have to keep the center open and take Trump’s gotdam name off it

Maybe you should write down a list of what would be properly masculine in your eyes, so we can ignore it more specifically.

Because playing whack a mole about whatever offends your sensibilities each week sounds kind of dull

It’s not that voting for Trump makes one feel more masculine. It’s that voting for a Democrat these days is emasculating.
