The indications I have from the Righties I have contact with who are actually in positions to know stuff is that they are going to go pretty hard on the Trans / Lefty causal screed regardless the reality of the situation. This will be expanded to whatever degree they can get away with to include not only advocacy groups but the machinery of the Democratic Party.

Most of the reliable data thus far indicates that this was a largely apolitical act from a fairly confused individual aligned more with the gamer community than any political ideology.

Kirk, if he was anything, was an opportunistic catastrophist. Every cultural wedge issue was portrayed as though it was an existential threat to the US if some innocuous lifestyle choice was allowed.

Ironic that, of all the cultural and racial groups that he called for the elimination of… a member of the Pepe the Frog gamer community would be the one to ultimately eliminate him. This is the same community that was one of the first, coincidentally, to elevate Bannon.

As prescient as you were on this issue, I’m gonna guess even you didn’t have “Nihilistic Bisexual Mormon Gamer” on your Bingo Card.

Ken’s been doing some of the most rational coverage on this in case anyone’s interested.

All the best.

Just happened to finish reading that one a moment ago. Such a baffling case. This kid just seems so normal, even taking into account the fact that they often do.

I grew up in Vegas, partially in the LDS church. Trips to the much smaller version of St. George that expanded to become Washington UT were a common part of my young life. Aside from the gaming speak, I recognize the outdoor culture, shooting, etc. as similar to what we did up there.

Unlikely that anyone who is honest and qualified will be able to definitively pin down a reason(s) as to why he acted as he did.

I have a kid that exact age. She can talk to us about anything (and does, often, and at length). I’d be curious how accessible Robinson’s family was to discuss issues in a non judgmental fashion.

Of all the most contrary and dysfunctional families I know with kids that age, the hardest right and most confident that they have morals and ethics figured out are the least connected to their offspring. Our family ends up being the sounding board for those kids. I’d feel pretty bad if my kid had to seek out another family to simply talk about the things that were confusing to her about our current situation.

Apparently, all the evil from the right is spring loaded to follow the formal charging action.

Poor timing on their part with Trump in the UK.

Thanks again.

The heritage of the west is post colonial and thus multi ethnic.

Thus white supremacy is a tool for a nation that didn't open up the world.

I know I'm naive here, but I am somewhat comforted idea that the playbook in America is to create a bill named after the fallen which is authoritarian and hateful when it isn't actively self-defeating. Then I think of the levers that one can pull in response to "man shot with gun on a concealed-carry campus," and the ones you can sell the public on seem to be levers the GOP doesn't want to touch. I understand the Reichstad Fire comparisons. I just doubt that American modes of politics are well-suited to any broad, nonspecific political reaction. Broad, nonspecific increases in violence as the article suggests? Absolutely. But the line from Kirk's death to political action all run through public shouty "debate" and the use of firearms, so I'm not too scared of the possibilities of the Charlie Kirk Bill, whatever they may be.
